No late entries at Phoenix UKA

The Phoenix UKA show to be held at Langford on Saturday 26 May has reached it's capping level and so we are sorry but will NOT be accepting any late entries at the show.

The access road required for the recent building works has left the main field unsuitable for parking and so please assist our car park attendants by parking where directed. There is enough suitable ground in the field for the rings and you will be able to walk your dogs on the rest of it.

The canteen will be open at 7.30am for breakfast.

As well as holding our raffle in aid of the Langford Trust the following trade stands will also be attending:

Klassy Canine Bakery
Absolutely Animals (collars leads)
Delta Dogs (bedding and all sorts of things)
Naturally4Dogs
Pet-ography (Chris Jones) Pet portraits
Emma Elliott Photography
K9 Bodyworks (Canine Massage Therapist)

STARS Autumn show, SW Scotland

Hi everyone

Just to let you know that we had a meeting of our club members last night. All the STARS (Stewartry Agility Runners) are really enthusiastic about welcoming agility friends to an autumn agility show on Saturday 24th November to be held indoors at the Barstobrick Equestrian Centre, Ringford near Castle Douglas. This will follow the successful format of our Easter Show so that dogs can have 4 runs and use of a warm up/training ring during the day for £10. Entries will be capped at 100.

Schedules will be published here and on the Agilitynet schedules page by the end of July.

We look forward to seeing you.

Area meetings

I've just spotted the post about the midlands area meeting at the end of May and whilst I'd love to go and participate in the discussion (as much to be nosy as air my own views as my views are not different to the majority I've heard), it's nearly a 2 hour drive after work on a day when I have a meeting at the end of the day anyway. In short, not a chance of me getting there as much as I may want to! I know other areas have had meetings at shows I've been at - just wondered if there would ever be a chance of the midlands meeting being held at a show (hence no travelling required and not on a work day!), or whether it was ok to attend a meeting for a different area to where I live when they're held at shows I attend anyway.

Midlands ALC Meeting

MIDLANDS AREA AGILITY COUNCIL MEETING

7.30pm Tuesday 29th May 2012
The Crown Inn ( lounge)
2 Main Street
Newbold On Avon
Rugby
CV21 1HW

Lots of important items on the Agility Liaison Council Agenda including:
• The new Agility strategic direction initiative Final Proposal. This is a very important initiative that is intended to reflect the big changes we have seen in the sport and shows during the last 10 years
• Championship Class & Grade 7 proposal
• A very important item on measuring course’s and judges using a matrix to finalize the maximum course time, we also need to look at the type of method used to measure courses if we take this route.

It’s a very full agenda for the June meeting and if you want your voice to be heard you need to give your opinion, this is always best at a meeting as opinions can be debated and it is a fact this can sometimes give a greater understanding of the implications and reasoning behind a proposal, the Council agenda will be on the Kennel Club Website.

We as representatives can only give the opinion of our area if we know it.

Dordale August Schedule?

Hi,

I see that Dordale is now live on ISS but unfortunately I am not registered so cannot enter via this method. Can anyone from Dordale confirm if the schedule is going to be uploaded onto Agility Addicts or AgilityNet please? If not my next question is which equipment supplier will Dordale be using at this show as if it is going to be First Contact I would probably not enter due to the reasons stated on my post from Beacons show.

Any info regarding the above would be great and then I can definitely decide where I am going for August Bank Holiday .

Cambridgeshire Canines UKA Show at Littleport (23/24 June)

Hi All,

Just a quick reminder that our first ever UKA show is closing on 25th May. You can download the schedule from the UKAgility Website.

Remember that you can train in the ring in a show environment. Course times can be used as "not for competition" and you can train those contacts that need reinforcing or those pull thros that need perfecting or those start line waits that need sorting. Especially of use on the Saturday, the day before Watford KC Show
Special nursery class for dogs from 16 months (no weaves or see saw).
We have 5 runs each day, 1 agility, 1 jumping, 1 games and 2 steeplechase.
Venue: Littleport Leisure Centre, Camel Road, Littleport, Ely, Camb, CB6 1PU

We are also looking for ring managers to help us with the rings - you will receive some free entries as a thank-you.

Also, any suggestions or requests for trade stands would be greatly received :-)

Getting very excited about it now, if slightly apprehensive as well, LOL!

Long Term Antibiotics

I wonder if anyone can share experience of having a dog on long term antibiotics for a persistent infection.
My 13 year old boy has had an infection in his foot for 6 weeks now. It's a long story, but after a month of bombarding him with antibiotics and reaching a point when it seemed nothing was happening, it started clearing up. The antibiotics were stopped, but within a few days, new blisters started appearing, so he's now on long term use of Baytril.
The situation is compounded by the fact that he has hypothyroidism which affects the immune system. Apparently it would be pointless to retest thyroid levels while he has the infection as results wouldn't be true, so it's a bit of a Catch 22 situation.
The positives of the situation are that the infection hasn't spread beyond the foot and that in all other respects he seems to be in good health.

I'm not looking for answers - and my vet says there are other options we can try, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has had similar experience, particularly with regard to using antibiotics for weeks on end.
